TechnologiesOfTheWeb
For this project, you will be making a "mini-site" about one of the web's technologies.
You may want to use the existing technology that you used on your previous version of the project.
For this one, you will use a combination of HTML to write the pages and CSS to style the pages.
This set of pages will go onto your online site.
It will be inside its own directory called TechWeb
Process:
First select the topic
Next gather as much information as you can about the topic
Save links to the web pages that tell you specific info about the topic.
Make a links page in html, you will convert this page so that it has list items later, but start by getting the links.
Template
Make a template for the project by making an HTML document and CSS page that will control it's appearance.
Copy the code from your template and make your other pages with it
Find the answers to the questions and write about them in sentences and paragraphs.
Each page should have several paragraphs at a minimum.
The text on the pages should be your own writing.
If you quote, do so sparingly, and use <blockquote> and </blockquote>
Questions
These are a minimum and can be added to.
Each question gets a page of its' own
what.html - What is this technology?
how.html - How does it work?
history.html What is the history of the technology?
links.html - What are the web addresses for finding more information on the subject

You will be putting your work online over the next few classes.
Some points to keep in mind when putting your work online
Get the technical details right
Check your work on your hard drive, make it all work.
Check your links, make sure they work

FreeWebHosting
Use your class user name (FirstnamelastInitialWebS09) to make the account
You will use the user interface of the web host to post your work.
The web site will prompt you for a user name, which will become your address.
Get your work online and send an email to Duxtech with the address of your work
Check it for errors
When you put your work on a system, it will likely have some errors
Check every link on every page
Make sure they work.
Try the links on another computer than the one that you store the files on.
Find all the errors and fix them.
Keep a copy of the pages on your hard drive
Make a zip file of your files and email them to yourself.

Embedding Scratch into a web page
Make a web page with HTML format for your scratch game project about vacation.
Go to the page where your game is and look on the right rail.
There is a section for Share, with Embed and Bookmark.
Choose Share, and you will see two fields pop up.
If you choose picture, it will be an image, which will link to the page with the game on it.
If you choose Applet, it embeds the game into your page. Sometimes Applets get fussy with browsers and don't work.
Copy the code for both of these into your page.
Save the page, browse it and test that it works.
Once the embed code is on the page, it will be updated every time you alter the project.
Work on your scratch project and make it work properly.
Next up: Site building and putting your work on line.

CSS postioning and classes
In the head of your page, you will declare all of the atributes you will control with your css.
Start the embedded style sheet with this code: <style type="text/css">
End the embedded style sheet by closing the style tag: </style>
You can define classes of tags by using the name of the tag, and adding a dot, then adding the classifier:
div.right
Then put the qualities of the class of div (or other tag) inside the curly braces {}
Div right might look like this:
div.right //declares a class of div called right
{ //opens the definition of div.right
float: right; //This makes the div appear on the right side
padding: 1em; //keeps other objects from hitting the edge
background-color: black; //colors the background
width: 100px; //sets the width at 100 pixels
height: 200px; //sets the height at 200 pixels
} //closes the definition of div.right
To use the new div class, you call the class like this:
<div class="right"> and close it with a regular close div </div>

print it and put it in your folder.
If you have other pages that have not been printed, print them out and put them in your folder.
3-26-09
CSS
The code for Embedded CSS goes in the HEAD of your page.
You will need to start and end the style sheet with the STYLE tag:
<style type="text/css">
</style>
Inside the STYLE tag, you specify the tags you want to control with the CSS by first naming it, and then giving the values inside curly braces: {}
To control the <BODY> tag, you would write it like this inside the STYLE tag:
body
{
background-color: red;
}
The w3 Schools try it editors are a great way to get familar with how to work with CSS.
http://www.w3schools.com/Css/default.asp

CSS
CSS or cascading style sheets is a more modern way of adding style to your web pages.
There are a couple of different flavors of CSS":
Inline css
embedded css
external css
If you use inline css, it will take precedence over your html tags outside the css. For instance, your H tags could be controlled with controlled through inline css where needed. The inline css goes in the BODY of the page
Embedded css would control the page, The embedded css goes in the HEAD of your page
external css can control many pages. External css, called a style sheet goes in a separate document.
Do this;
Create a collection of pages listed below.
First: use inline css in a page called InlineCSS.html
Add three paragraphs of text on an appropriate subject.
Use normal html structure
Add a headline to each paragraph
Style the paragraphs and headline with inline css.
Next: use embedded css in a page called EmbeddedCss.html
Last use an external style sheet on a page called ExternalCSS.html and a CSS document called External.css

<I> and </I> will italicize text
<B> and </B> will bold text
<U> and </U> will underline text
There are a bunch more tags for controlling text
The <H1> tag will give a headline</H1>
The H tag goes from 1 to 6, each has default size and style associated with it.
